And every day, the world will drag you by the hand, yelling, "This is important! And this is important! And this is important! You need to worry about this! And this! And this!" And each day, it's up to you to yank your hand back, put it on your heart and say, "No. This is what's important."
Without a vision and a plan, you won’t be able to get things done. Every great leader has a mono focus on the things they want to accomplish. Here are Robin Sharma’s tips to writing a One Page Plan to keep things simple yet effective. The idea is to look at the plan every seven days to make sure you are on track. Remember though, nothing happens if you are not committed!
Write your magnificent obsession
In one paragraph, write down what your best year would look like – in your property business, in your relationships, in your lifestyle, financially, in your health, in ANYTHING, write down the most amazing year you would want to have.
Write out your 3 top values
Write down you BIG 5 for this new year
Set your quarterly goals
Got it? Well done! Now get a big flip chart. Put it up in your office as a visual reminder of what needs to happen that week/month/year.
Next, categorise your list into MUST DO, SHOULD DO and WOULD LIKE TO DO. Focus on the MUST DO tasks before you venture anywhere near the other categories. Start each day doing at least four things from your MUST DO list, things that will help your business grow. It is easy to get swept up in the busy-ness of nothingness. Focus your time on game-changing tasks first and then turn your attention to the administrative type tasks like emails, checking your business-related social media response accounts. That way you will end the day seeing what you have achieved. If you don't have an office or space for a flipchart, you can use an online TO DO list to manage your time.
Determine how much you can deliver in an average week and make that your new benchmark. It is important not to beat yourself up because of all you did not achieve.
As a broad guideline, you should spend 5% of your time defining your strategy, the future of your business. 15% of your time can be spent on operations or delegations. 80% - most of your time – should be spent creating and relating (marketing) new products and/or services. If you are not doing this, you can't make it. Make decisions on what to take on and what to do next based on your vision.
Set yourself up for success by using the morning for your most creative work. Don’t let your inbox set the agenda for the day. The moment you start checking emails, you get sucked into someone else’s agenda because you begin responding and reacting instead of being intentional and creative. Scroll through Facebook and start watching silly videos and suddenly the best hours of your day has vanished. Switch off all social media, emails and your cell phone. Make sure the people who would need to get hold of you in an unlikely emergency know where you are. Then ignore everyone and everything else while you focus on your dreams. Commitment creates freedom.
